Analysis of music videos- Material girl

Madonnas "Material girl" is an obvious shot-for-shot re-enactment for the sequence "Diamonds are a girls bestfriend" from the movie "Gentlemen prefer blondes". Madonna established her image as a fashion icon through this video, as she portrayed herself as being the glamorous superstar.

Due to Madonna being a solo artist, many close-ups are used in the video, this is creating a star image, the producers and managers of Madonna would have wanted many close-ups and singular shots of the star as it will boost record sales as they're selling her image to the public. The costume and mis en scene was identical to Marilyn Monroe in her sequence, with even the lyrics replicating the original sequence eg. "diamonds are a girls bestfriend" is changed to "i am a material girl", showing the materialistic values of the leading woman they are portraying.
